PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The share price of coal developer Cokal rose on Thursday on the news of the discovery of an additional coal seam at its Bumi Barito Mineral (BBM) mine, in Indonesia.

The company told shareholders that as part of the development programme of the BBM mine, which was on track to produce its first saleable coking coal by September, a test pit had been undertaken at Pit 3 to observe and verify coal formations, provide guidance for mining the first cut, verify the geological model, confirm coal quality and to check for additional potential and anomalies.

The test pit led to the discovery of an additional coal seam, which had not been included in the BBM coal resource or production schedule.

Cokal noted that the coal seam appeared to have no interburden or coal partings, and it could be inferred that the coal product would be low ash. The company added that further investigation was ongoing, with additional trenching works, to obtain detailed information around the quality and quantity of coal available.
