Project Description
The 600 MW Coire Glas pumped-storage scheme will extract, store and release energy to and from the electricity transmission system to help balance supply and demand for power on a national scale. The proposed scheme involves constructing a dam and creating a new reservoir formed at Loch a’ Choire Ghlais.

Water will be transferred between the new reservoir and an underground cavern power station through a headrace tunnel, and between the power station and Loch Lochy through a tailrace tunnel.

It is currently estimated that it will require a total investment of around £800-million.

Duration
A final investment decision on the project is expected in 2015 at the earliest.

Latest Developments
The Scottish Ministers granted consent for the Coire Glas pumped-storage proposal in December 2013.
