SANTIAGO - Chile's State-run Codelco, the world's largest copper producer, named Braim Chiple as its new chief commercial officer, the company said on Friday.

Starting on March 15, Chiple, who comes from the private mining sector, will take over from outgoing CCO Carlos Alvarado, who had worked at Codelco since 1996.

Chiple currently works at Mitsubishi RtM as an adviser and senior consultant for copper trading in South America. Previously, he worked at BHP from 2006 to 2012 in a number of roles and then at Anglo American until 2023, according to the statement.

Codelco has faced a leadership shakeup since Ruben Alvarado took over as CEO last August as a production and debt crisis rocked the state-run giant.

The company's production fell to its lowest point in a quarter of a century in 2022, and is expected to have fallen further in 2023, following a decline in ore grades and cost overruns on projects meant to boost production.
