Name and Location
Clyde terminal conversion project, Sydney, Australia.

Client
Shell Australia.

Project Description
Shell has taken the decision to stop refining operations at its 79 000 bl/d Clyde refinery, in Sydney, Australia, and convert it and the Gore Bay terminal into a fuel import facility.

The decision was taken in light of the refinery no longer being competitive against new megarefineries in the region.

The project involves extensive upgrades and refurbishment, as well as re-use of existing crude and product tankage that supplies truck-loading and pipeline operations helping to service Sydney airport and Shell’s distribution of fuels into the New South Wales market from Parramatta terminal.

Value
Not stated.

Duration
Refining at Clyde ceased from September 30, 2012.

The refinery is intended to be completely demolished by 2016.

Latest Developments
Jacobs Engineering Group has been selected by Shell Australia to convert the Clyde refinery. Under the terms of the contract, Jacobs is initially providing a basic design and engineering package (BDEP) to convert the Clyde refinery and associated satellite Gore Bay terminal into a competitive product import terminal.

Subject to approval, Jacobs is also expected to provide engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services during the delivery phase of the project.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
Jacobs (BDEP and EPCM).

On Budget and on Time?
