The City of Tshwane received a proposal from the Kratos Consortium which seeks to drive industrialisation in Tshwane by means of three different, yet interrelated, projects.

Considered in August by the city’s executive committee, the proposal speaks to the development of an iron-ore processing plant, agricultural production facilities for biomethane and hydrogen, as well as the use of both gas and exhaust emissions to drive turbines to produce clean energy.

According to the proposal, this will reduce the carbon footprint of Tshwane and enable the city to earn carbon credits, which will be an additional revenue stream for the municipality.

The proposal commits to create 36 000 sustainable jobs over the course of five years.

In addition, the combined project will result in a direct foreign and domestic capital investment of R26-billion.

This catalytic development is expected to attract further local investment to the value of R22-billion over the course of five years, taking the total value of the investment over the five-year period R48-billion.

The public have until 16:00 on October 7 to submit their comments on the proposal. A copy of the proposal can be requested by sending an email to citymanager@tshwane.gov.za

Comments can also be submitted to citymanager@tshwane.gov.za.
