Name and Location
Charley Creek rare earths project, Northern Territory, Australia.

Client
Crossland Uranium Mines, in joint venture (JV) with Pancontinental Uranium Corporation.

Project Description
A scoping study has identified the Charley Creek project as one of the lowest capital cost rare-earth element projects in the world with a viable timeline to development.

The project has total indicated resources of 386.86-million tons, for contained total rare-earth oxides (TREOs) of 114.05-million kilograms. The scoping study envisages large-scale mining operations consisting of 12-million tons to 20-million tons a year from two mining sites.

Run-of-mine will be trucked to mining field units, where the oversize and slimes will be removed to the pit void. The remaining sand will be pumped to a nearby primary wet concentration plant of spiral circuits, where 93% of the feed will be removed as tailings and pumped to the pit void.

Value
$156-million, including contingency and project infrastructure. Incremental expansion capital from 12-million tons a year to 20-million tons a year will cost an additional $40-million.

Duration
Production should be achievable by mid-2016.

Latest Developments
With the positive outcomes of the scoping study, the JV can advance to feasibility study stage, which will consider further optimisation of recoveries, reserve definition and expansion options.

If appropriate funding is secured, it is expected that the feasibility study and the environmental-impact statement can be concluded in the next year, leading to permitting and other arrangements, as well as financing and construction in early 2015.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
None stated.

On Budget and on Time?
