Central Transmission Corridor (CTC) project, Zimbabwe.

Project Description
The proposed project will entail the construction of a 160-km transmission line to increase the north-south transfer capacity of the Zimbabwe network to 600 MW, compared with the current 200 MW.

The project aims to significantly reduce costs associated with congestion and lead to more efficient power trading.

Value
The estimated cost of the project is $100-million.

Duration
The project is expected to be completed by December 2012.

Client
A joint initiative between Zesa Holdings (20%), and prospective private investors (80%).

Latest Developments
The CTC has reached a long-term agreement with South Africa's Eskom, which is seeking to import more power from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique to meet domestic demand.

According to a project document by Zesa, CTC expects to raise long-term debt against the security of the Eskom offtake.
