Queensland, Australia.

Project Owner/s
State-owned power company Stanwell Corporation together with international partners, Iwatani Corporation, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Kansai Electric Power Company, Marubeni, and Australian energy infrastructure business APA Group.

Project Description
A feasibility study has determined that the CQ-H2 project is technically feasible and commercially viable, with appropriate government support in the initial phases.

The aim is to develop large-scale renewable hydrogen production in Central Queensland to export to Japan and supply large industrial customers in the Central Queensland region.

The project could produce 800 t/d of clean green hydrogen, equivalent to fuelling more than double Australia’s heavy vehicle fleet.

The project is expected to have a 30-year life span.

Potential Job Creation
At its peak, the project is expected to create up to 8 900 new jobs in construction, heavy manufacturing, and a range of local service industries in Queensland.

Planned Start/End Date
The project aims to complete Phase 1 in 2026, with commercial production starting in the first quarter of 2027. Phase 2 is expected to come on line in 2031.

Latest Developments
The consortium has started preparations for a front-end engineering design study in early 2023.
