Project Description
The Carling–Saint-Avold petrochemicals complex’s existing facilities have been upgraded and new, higher-value-added units have been built to improve the site’s competitiveness.

Polystyrene production capacity has been increased and upgraded to deliver advanced plastics, for example, to the healthcare market.

In addition, a unit has been built to manufacture polypropylene compounds to meet the automotive market demand for innovative and lighter plastics to replace steel, and thereby make vehicles more fuel efficient.

The Carling–Saint-Avold site now also houses the Cray Valley Europe headquarters and research and development centre, which also serves as a logistics hub. A new unit has also been built to produce high-value-added Ricon and Krasol resins. Upgrade works have also been undertaken on a unit producing premium odourless, transparent Cleartrack resins.

Jobs to Be Created
The adaptation of the Carling–Saint-Avold complex did not involve layoffs or compulsory staff transfers. Each employee was offered a personalised plan, such as a transfer to another position within the group, retirement or assistance to create the employee’s own businesses.

The project is estimated at €200-million.
