Cairo Solar Farm project, Egypt
Name and Location
Cairo Solar Farm project, Egypt.
Client
Cairo Solar Farm SAE, a special purpose vehicle comprising Globeleq.
Project Description
The project is part of the first regulatory round of the Egyptian government’s Feed-in Tariff programme, which aims to procure 4 300 MW of renewable-energy capacity.
The Cairo Solar Farm 65 MWp (50 MW ac) solar photovoltaic (PV) development will be located in Egypt’s New and Renewable Energy Agency’s (NREA’s) 37.5 km2 Benban 1.8 GW PV solar park comprising 39 separate PV plots. The project will comprise a single-axis tracking system of about 206 360 PV panels.
Power will be sent to an inverter and fed into the utility power grid system through the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) substation.
The project will be connected to Substation 3 through an underground 22 kV transmission line, which will follow a right-of-way along the route of the internal Benban PV site roads that will be built by the EETC.
Substation 3 will be connected by a high-voltage line to the existing 220 kV high-voltage overhead line about 12 km east of the Benban PV site.
All output generated by the project will be sold to the EETC under a 25-year power purchase agreement.
Value
The project is estimated at $115-million.
Duration
Project procurement and construction will start between the second and third quarters of 2016, and the plant will be operational for a 25-year period, with options to extend the lease after that date.
