PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Cadia operation, in New South Wales, is back to full production following repairs and a period of operational testing at the Concentrator 1 semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mill.

The mill was taken offline for an inspection on October 18, which revealed more loose windings than initially anticipated.

Gold miner Newcrest Mining said on Monday that engineers had determined that the mill motor would eventually require a full rewind. However, the timing of this rewind would be subject to the availability of long lead time parts, and would be incorporated into the maintenance schedule when it was considered convenient, or appropriate to do so.

Newcrest reported that the installation of the conveyor to bypass the mill, transporting ore from the high-pressure grinding rolls to the ball mill circuit, remained on schedule to be completed in early December.

It was expected that the conveyor would provide further operating flexibility.

Meanwhile, stockpiles generated over the last five weeks would now be fully processed by the end of the current financial year.

Despite the five-week SAG mill downtime, Newcrest said that Cadia’s full-year production and cost guidance remained unchanged.
