Cabinet wants united front ahead of decision on S Africa’s investment status

Cabinet on Thursday called for the country to put up a united front to protect the country’s investment grade status just weeks before ratings agencies determine whether the country will be downgraded to junk status or maintain its rating.

Briefing journalists in Parliament a day after cabinet held its fortnightly meeting, Presidency Minister Jeff Radebe reminded South Africans that Moody’s, Fitch and Standard and Poor will make their decisions over the coming weeks.

“Government has been working with business, civil society and labour to translate the country’s plans into concrete actions that will ensure South Africa remains an investment grade country,” he said.

“Cabinet calls on all sectors to join government in a united front to protect the country’s investment status.
