Cabinet has approved that the Integrated Energy Plan, which is aimed at ensuring that current and future energy service needs can be met, be published for public discussion.

Anchored in the National Energy Act of 2008, the plan seeks to guide future energy infrastructure investments and policy development, which will shape the future energy landscape of South Africa.

Further, Cabinet says it has approved that public consultations be held on the base case and assumptions of an update to the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), which is currently six years out of date.

Its statement holds that, the first milestone, which is the compilation of assumptions to be used in the updated IRP has been completed.

The second milestone, the development of the base case, or the least-cost plan, has also been completed.

Further, it says the third milestone, which is a scenario analysis, is under way.

Cabinet goes on to note that the fourth milestone is policy adjustment.
