Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) has come out in support of the national action and planned marches around Parliament by various groupings, set to take place next Tuesday between 12:00 and 14:00, amid MPs much-anticipated voting in the motion of no confidence bought against President Jacob Zuma.

The business group has specifically written to its members encouraging them to find a mutually acceptable way of accomodating employees who wish to participate in the protest activities with no loss of income or benefits, and without the need to apply for leave.

“As an organisation, we believe South Africans should have the opportunity to peacefully express their views at this significant juncture in South Africa’s history, without prescribing what those views should be,” said BLSA in a statement.

The motion of no confidence against Zuma was tabled by the Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane in April following Zuma’s midnight Cabinet reshuffle which saw former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and his deputy Mcebisi Jonas axed.

BLSA has blamed Zuma for the country’s recent credit downgrades following what it calls his "ill-considered decision" to reshuffle his Cabinet.

The organisation says business is alive to the critical juncture at which South Africa finds itself as a result of the impact of the ever-increasingly evident examples of apparent State capture.
