Name and location
Bugoye hydropower plant project, Kasese, Western Uganda.

Project description
The project will require the construction and operation of a 13-MW run-of-river hydropower plant and a six-kilometre-long 33-kV transmission line to connect it to the Ugandan grid.
The plant will located on the Mobuku and Isya rivers in the foothills of the Rwenzori mountains in Kasese district, in western Uganda.

The project will divert water from the two rivers and run it through a five-kilometre-long canal along the contour into a 950-m-long penstock, with a head of 160 m. After passing through two 6,5-MW Francis turbines, the water will be discharged back into the Mobuku river.

Value
The project is expected to cost an estimated $56-million. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) proposes to provide loan finance of $14-million for its own account.

Duration
The plant will take about 21 months to build.
