Cradlestone Mall  (0.03 MB)

The new Cradlestone Mall, north-west of Johannesburg is one of the largest shopping malls currently under construction at 75 000 m2. The development situated at the ever-growing N14 highway and Hendrik Potgieter Road area is perfectly situated for ease of access to the Cradle of Humankind, a world renowned Heritage site, as well as Mogale City, Silverstar Casino and ongoing residential developments at Helderkruin Ridge.

Cradlestone Mall, a joint venture between Retail Africa and Sasol Pension Fund, will have a two level retail space comprising 230 shops and restaurants and is due for completion end-October 2013. The new Mall has an extension capacity of up to 100,000 square meters, and currently has 4,000 parking bays. A new access road off the N14will feed directly into Cradlestone Mall will offer shoppers and patrons easy access to the centre.

Oconbrick were the preferred supplier for clay stock bricks for the Mall due to their ability to manufacture the quantities required while maintaining the quality of the stock. Oconbrick has a one million bricks per day production capability, which, for a project of this stature, was a prerequisite in so much as it ensured that the supply of clay stock bricks was never interrupted. The Oconbrick is recognised for its durability, longevity and consistency in quality and shape.

By August 2013, Oconbrick had supplied six million clay stock bricks to the Cradlestone Mall project, delivering seven loads per day, including after-hours when required. Each load comprised 12,000 bricks. Oconbrick will have supplied 11.8 million bricks in total by the time the Mall is completed towards the end of 2013. In addition to their production capacity, Oconbrick believe they won this contract in part due to their ability to deliver the required amount of bricks, on time, thereby keeping the project on schedule and eliminating penalties.

Oconbrick are familiar with working on projects as large as the Cradlestone Mall, as they recently supplied over five million clay stock bricks to the  new environmentally friendly Standard Bank building in Rosebank, Johannesburg.

Oconbrick have supplied clay stock and clay semi-face bricks to commercial, residential and golf estate properties as well as being utilised as an interior finish.
