Eskom has invited bids for the construction of the Borutho–Witkop portion of the transmission lines.

The scope of work to be undertaken includes a line survey, tower foundations, the supply, assembly and erection of structural steel towers and the installation of all hardware and insulators. The contract will also include stringing and regulation, access roads and bush-clearing fall-arrest systems, the construction of an underpass and environmental rehabilitation works.

The project forms part of the Eskom investment support project, for which the World Bank has provided £3.75-billion in financing and, therefore, bidding will be conducted through bidding procedures specified by the bank, and will be open to all bidders from eligible source countries as defined by World Bank guidelines. Bidding documents were available from September 5, with bidding closing on October 21.
