PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Manganese miner OM Holdings (OMH) has reported a significant decline in quarterly production at the Zulu deposit at its Bootu Creek project, in the Northern Territory.

Production during the third quarter fell to 150 843 t, from the 208 183 t delivered in the three months to June. Year-to-date production was 554 633 t.

OMH noted that as a consequence of the low mass yields from the Zulu deposit, a decision was made to redeploy resources from the Zulu deposit to the Shekuma deposit. Work on a cut-back above the higher-grade ore zone has started, as well as the pre-strip of the new Yaka deposit, which was within zones of high-grade manganese ore close to surface.

Ore from the Yaka deposit was accessed in late September, and has had an immediate positive effect on improving plant mass yields at the Bootu Creek plant, OMH said.

The ASX-listed miner said that the full-year production forecast for Bootu Creek remained unchanged at 800 000 t.

Meanwhile, at the Qinzhou smelter and sinter plant, in China, OMH reported a 26% year-on-year production increase during the third quarter ended September. The operation produced 23 359 t of ferro manganese.

Manganese sinter ore production increased by 56% year-on-year to 68 748 t.

The Qinzhou plant’s production forecast for 2013 remains at 80 000 t of ferromanganese and 250 000 t of manganese sinter ore.
