Project Description
The 113 MW Boco Rock wind farm will be located 10 km south-west of Nimmitabel, and 30 km north of Bombala, in New South Wales. The approved wind farm comprises up to 122 wind turbines spanning 27 properties, including those of the landowners who will host the connecting power line from the project to Steeple Flat, 25 km east.

Phase 1 will comprise 67 of the 122 approved wind turbine sites. The construction of the second phase will begin once the first phase is complete.

The project will save 293 600 t/y in carbon dioxide emissions.

Value
The JV is reportedly considering a stakeholder in the wind farm and is ready to sell 50% to 100% of its stake in the project, of which the first phase will cost $350-million.

Duration
Construction of the wind farm will begin in the third quarter of 2013 and  is expected to start delivering power from the fourth quarter of 2014.

Latest Developments
The Downer-GE Consortium, comprising General Electric (GE) and the Downer Group, has been awarded the contract to supply turbines for and build the $350-million Boco Rock wind farm project.

The contract, valued at $100-million, involves the delivery of the first phase of the 113 MW wind farm.

According to the contract, Downer Group will perform full engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) for the first phase of the project. Downer’s scope of work includes the construction of the 132 kV transmission line and substation; the balance of plant, civil and electrical infrastructure; logistics; and the erection of the wind turbine generators.

GE will supply and commission fifty-eight 1.7 MW and nine 1.6 MW wind turbine generators.
