JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The Dundas ilmenite project, in Greenland, is entering the final permitting phases ahead of submitting an application for exploitation early next year.

Bluejay Mining, which is listed on the Aim and FSE, reported on Tuesday that it had finalised the terms of reference for the environmental impact assessment and the social impact assessment and that these studies would be completed in the first quarter of 2018.

The company further reported that the government and relevant licensing bodies had accepted and approved all documents for the project.

The Dundas project, which is considered one of the highest grade mineral sands projects globally, has received a high degree of support from stakeholders, CEO Roderick McIllree said.

“With strong stakeholder and government support received to date, we can now advance into the final stages of project permitting, which together with ongoing feasibility studies, will culminate in an application for exploitation early next year,” he said.

SRK Consulting, IHC Robbins, Royal IHC and Amec Foster Wheeler Americas are working on different elements of the feasibility study for the project.

Dundas has an initial inferred Joint Ore Reserves Committee resource of 23.6-million tons at 8.8% ilmenite (in situ), including a high-grade zone equal to 7.9-million tons at 14.2% ilmenite, and significant further upside.
