Name and Location
Bloodwood Creek underground coal gasification (UCG) project, Australia.

Client
Carbon Energy.

Project Description
A comprehensive conceptual study completed on the Bloodwood Creek UCG project, in Queensland’s Surat basin, has identified commercial-scale opportunities for the project.

The study confirms the commercial viability of producing ammonia and synthetic natural gas from Carbon Energy’s certified 743PJ 2P syngas reserve.

The syngas reserve is sufficient to support the production of about 2 200 t/d of ammonia or 25 PJ of synthetic natural gas a year for 25 years.

Latest Developments
Following the positive conceptual study, Carbon Energy plans to implement the next stage of development – the completion of a prefeasibility study that will rigorously assess the economics of ammonia and synthetic natural gas production to a greater level of accuracy.

This will depend on clarification of the Queensland government’s UCG policy.
