Name of the Project
Biala Wind Farm project.

Location
The project is located about 15 km south-west of Crookwell, in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia.

Client
Newtricity.

Project Description
The project involves the installation, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of 31 wind turbines, with a tip height of up to 185 m and a hub height of up to 110 m.

Each turbine is expected to produce about 3.5 MW of power, enabling the wind farm to generate about 78 MW/y of electricity, enough to power 33 200 homes.

The project will include a central electrical substation, electrical connections between the turbine generators and the on-site substation; a permanent maintenance and operations facility; internal access roads, monitoring masts, temporary site offices, storage and car parking facilities; a temporary concrete batching plant; and other on-site structures and road upgrades.

Jobs to Be Created
The project is expected to create 70 construction jobs and seven operational jobs.

Value
The project is estimated at $192-million.

Duration
Not stated.

Latest Developments
The project team is considering transmission line options to connect the on-site substation to the existing transmission network.

This includes the possibility of a 132 kV overhead transmission line corridor and/or the possibility of a 33 kV underground corridor connection.

A transmission line route will be finalised on completion of further assessments undertaken and pending lease agreements with involved landowners.

Approval for the transmission line connection will be sought separately from the wind farm.
