PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Iron-ore miner BC Iron on Friday announced that MD Mike Young would be stepping down on May 10, to be replaced by current finance and executive director Morgan Ball.

Young would remain on the BC Iron board as a nonexecutive director.

“Young was our first employee and has played an absolutely integral role in bringing the company to its current position as a significant iron-ore producer,” said chairperson Tony Kiernan.

“It was Young’s decision to step down, and we are delighted that he will remain on the board where we look forward to his continued contribution as a nonexecutive director.”

Young said on Friday that he had worked closely with Ball in the past, and was convinced that there would not be strategy or cultural change to the company, with the management transition.

“From my own perspective, the time is clearly right for me to move to a nonexecutive director role at BC Iron, and I plan on continuing to play a supportive role in the company,” he commented.

Ball is a chartered accountant with some 20 years experience in the Australian and international resources, logistics and finance industries. He joined BC Iron in September 2009 as CFO and company secretary.

He was appointed to the board as an executive director in December 2011.
