Company Announcement - The Sandton Convention Centre will again play host to about 5 000 talented youths at the 2015 Career Indaba, hosted in partnership with SABC Education. Highlighting available career opportunities and required appropriate qualifications, the event aims to assist students, learners, job seekers and young professionals with their professional development choices. Global chemical company, BASF, will be showcasing available opportunities in the chemical industry. The organization employs over 110 000 people worldwide, in 18 different industries and throughout various sectors. In 2015, and for the third consecutive year, BASF South Africa (Pty) Ltd was accredited as a Top Employer.

This certification is awarded only to organisations that achieve the highest standards of excellence in employee conditions.
BASF will be using the platform of the expo to inform the participants about possible career opportunities within the organisation, highlighting that its success has been achieved by a team of specialists in various fields, not only by those specializing in science and chemistry. To support this, the stand will showcase some of the many functions of possible interest to participants, ranging from Health and Safety, Finance, and External Sales through to Marketing and Communications, and will be hosted by BASF staff members from those divisions.

Joan-Maria Garcia-Girona, Vice President and Head of BASF Business Center South Africa and Sub-Sahara shares: “I am extremely proud that BASF is continuously improving its position within the Top Employer of South Africa, with 2015 seeing the company being positioned as top in the chemical industry sector. This is testimony to the great strides that our Human Resources function has made in ensuring that BASF is an attractive place to work and is a company of choice amongst job seekers.  This is clearly in line with one of our strategic principles: ‘We form the best team’.”

This year BASF celebrates its 150 year anniversary and has committed 2015, and the years to come, to collaborating and co-creating with colleagues, customers and stakeholders, under the strategic corporate purpose of ‘We create chemistry for a sustainable future’.  Explains Garcia-Girona:  “From its early beginnings, BASF has always had an innovative and collaborative culture and, to this day, continues to work closely with university researchers, scientists, chemists and other stakeholders who have provided the cornerstones for our research,” he said.

“With BASF being a science and research-based company, one of the critical factors for our continued success for the next 150 years and beyond, is supporting the education and development of the next generations of not only scientists, but of all BASF employees. The company focusses on sourcing and retaining the best talent, and platforms such as the Career Indaba provide us with the perfect opportunity to engage with the future generation of BASF innovators,” he said.
