Project Description
The project involves upgrading the Base–Rukomo road along the Base–Gicumbi–Rukomo-Nyagatare axis and forms part of the first phase of Rwanda’s Transport Sector Support Project.
The Base–Rukomo project comprises:
• the upgrade of 51.54 km between Base and Rukomo;
• the construction of multifunctional centres for women and the rehabilitation of school facilities along the main road;
• institutional support to the project executing agency; and
• clearing the right of way.

The total cost of the project is $78.99-million.
Duration
The project will be implemented from 2015 to 2019.
Latest Developments
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a $74.47-million loan to finance the first phase of Rwanda’s Transport Sector Support Project.
