Name and Location
Baseload gas-fired power plant, Mozambique/South Africa.

Client
Aggreko and Shanduka Group.

Project Description
The project involved the construction of an interim 107.5 MW gas-fired power plant to baseload and peak power to Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) and Eskom.

The power plant is situated in Ressano Garcia on the Mozambique/South African border, 90 km north-west of Maputo at Gigawatt Park, a development of Gigawatt Mozambique. It is powered by natural gas from the Temane gasfields, in Mozambique, and its output is being injected directly into the national grid of EDM on site through a purpose built substation. The power generated at the plant is being split between the two utilities, with EDM using 15 MW and Eskom 92.5 MW.

To bring the overall project to fruition Aggerko invested in the construction of a number of a 1.2-km-high pressure gas pipeline, gas processing and depressurising infrastructure, a major substation and 1.5 km of 275 kV transmission line.

Value
$250-million.

Duration
The project was officially inaugurated in July 2012.
