PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Lithium developer Tawana Resources has received environmental approval to construct and operate a 1.2-million-tonne dense media separation plant (DMS) at the Bald Hill mine, in Western Australia.

“Being permitted to develop and operate at the Bald Hill mine is a significant achievement and milestone for the joint venture,” said Tawana MD Mark Calderwood.

Tawana and its partner Alliance Mineral Assets are developing the A$42.2-million Bald Hill project, which is expected to deliver 155 000 t/y of spodumene concentrate and 260 000 lb/y of tantalum pentoxide over a mine life of 3.6 years.

Calderwood pointed out that the issue of an amended operation licence by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, followed the recent approval of the updated environmental mining proposal by the Department of Mines and Petroleum.

The approvals allow for mining and processing of ithium and tantalum to start at Bald Hill.
