Bakwena N1/N4 Toll Concession.
Project Description
The project involves upgrades to the Zambesi, Pumulani, Stormvoël, Doornpoort, Brits and Marikana toll plazas along the Bakwena N1/N4 highways.
The Bakwena toll road stretches 385 km on the N4 from Pretoria, in Gauteng; through Rustenburg, to the Botswana border near Swartruggens, in the North West; and on the N1 from Pretoria to Bela-Bela, in Limpopo.
The upgrades are being implemented as a result of increased traffic volumes along the corridor and are aimed at increasing plaza capacity through the addition of new lanes.
Zambesi will be the first toll plaza to be upgraded, with the construction of two extra lanes at the on-/off-ramps.
Pumulani and Doornpoort will be upgraded with two extra lanes; the Brits and Marikana plazas will be upgraded with one additional lane in each direction; and Stormvoël plaza will be upgraded with one lane at the on-/off-ramp.
Value
R160-million.
Duration
Construction across the plazas are expected to be completed by December 2017.
Latest Developments
Bakwena has started with its upgrades to the Zambesi toll plaza; the project is expected to be completed by the end of October 2016.
