Project Description
A scoping study released in February 2025 outlined a midstream refinery, which will process awaruite concentrate into battery-grade nickel sulphate for the electric vehicle industry.

The refinery will be capable of producing 32 000 t/y of contained nickel in battery-grade nickel sulphate over a life span of about 40 years.

In addition to nickel sulphate, the refinery will produce three by-products: 570 t/y of contained cobalt in cobalt carbonate, 240 t/y of contained copper in copper cement and 87 400 t/y of ammonium sulphate, a valuable fertiliser product.

The feasibility study estimates an after-tax net present value, at an 8% discount rate, of $445-million and an internal rate of return of 20%, with a payback of four years.
