TSHWANE AUTOMOTIVE CITY (TAC) ASSISTING TO REVERSE THE LEGACY OF APARTHEID BY PROVIDING SPATIAL PLANNING THAT PROVIDES AFFORDABLE HOUSING WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF SCHOOLS, SHOPPING CENTRES AND WORK OPPORTUNITIES.

The automotive city private investor called:  Rosslyn Development Company, is currently finalizing plans to start with the first phase of Social Housing in September 2021. The first phase of housing will be ideally be located directly opposite the planned Convenience Centre and existing Spark Primary School which are within walking distance of large sale employers like Nissan, BMW, Iveco, The Automotive Supplier Park, BEVCAN/Nampak and SAB.

The ideal social housing project is one that aims to restructure cities by providing low to medium income households with housing opportunities in well serviced areas of high economic activity. Therefore, the social housing within Rosslyn Hub, aims to restructure Rosslyn by addressing the legacy of the Apartheid Spatial Planning which aimed to separate the workers from their place of employment by creating the townships such as Garankuwa, Mabopane and Soshanguve. This will enable workers to live within walking distance from the high economic activity located in Rosslyn and reduce long and expensive commute times.

As such the project has through the support of the Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC) and the Tshwane Automotive City (TAC) facilitation desk received support from the City of Tshwane’s Human Settlements Department. This will further reinforce the Living Aspect of the TAC by integrating high density housing within the Productive City, enabling low to medium income households to live closest to the area of high economic activity. This will act as a catalyst for further private sector investment in Spark High School, a filling station with 24-hour convenience centre and a value shopping centre.
