Name and Location
Automated people mover (APM) system capacity expansion project, Florida, US.

Client
Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD).

Project Description
The APM is a driverless, fully automated passenger transport system. Cars are equipped with rubber tires, resulting in smooth and quiet operation that is, therefore, also ecofriendly.

The Miami International Airport (MIA) Mover system currently in operation at the airport was ordered in 2008 and completed in 2011. It connects the airport with the Miami Intermodal Centre, a multimodal transportation hub, over a distance of about 2 km. Shortly after its inauguration, the MIA Mover has consistently attracted more passengers than initially projected, raising calls for necessary capacity expansion.

Value
Not stated.

Duration
Delivery of the additional cars is scheduled for 2016.

Latest Developments
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has received an order for capacity expansion work, including the provision of four additional railway cars for the APM system.

On Budget and on Time?
Not stated.
