PERTH (miningweekly.com) – New data by the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (Appea) has shown that natural gas production in Australia increased by 11% in 2019, compared with 2018, and more than doubled over the past five years.

Conventional gas production in 2019 reached 3.5-billion cubic feet, with coal seam gas production reaching 1.4-billion cubic feet, while liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports reached 3.8-billion cubic feet.

Petroleum liquid production also increased during 2019 to 172-million barrels, up 37% on 2018, driven by an increase in condensate production from new LNG projects.

Appea said this week that Australia recorded a A$22.5-billion surplus in the trade of oil and gas in 2018/19, the highest recorded in the last 30 years. This was primarily owing to a 61% increase in the value of LNG exports.
