Atlas Iron doubles Corunna Downs resource
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Iron-ore miner Atlas Iron has doubled the resource at its Corunna Downs project, in Western Australia, taking the resource estimate to 51-million tonnes, grading 57.3% iron.
“In less than a year, the Corunna Downs project has moved from a new discovery to substantial indicated and inferred mineral resource of high quality,” MD Ken Brinsden said on Thursday.
He noted that the latest resource upgrade put Corunna Downs well on track to achieve its exploration target of between 100-million and 150-million tonnes, grading between 55% and 58% iron by June 2015.
“This result demonstrates that the North Pilbara remains a favourable location for iron-ore exploration and Altas’ continued exploration success here is building a broad pipeline of potential opportunities for the company to maintain and grow its reserve base,” Brinsden said.
The Corunna Downs mine is located between Atlas’ newest mine Mt Webber and its McPhee Creek project. Atlas plans to drill its tenure from Corunna Downs to McPhee Creek, as part of its plans to capitalise on its location and the prospectivity of the area.
