PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Iron-ore miner Atlas Iron has awarded a A$15-million construction contract to fellow-listed Brierty for the construction of a 60 km access road to its Abydos mine, in Western Australia.

The construction of the access road would include bulk earthworks, drainage and pavement layers.

Work was scheduled to start in March, and would be completed by the end of June this year.

This was Brierty’s first contract from Atlas Iron.

The Abydos mine formed part of Atlas Iron’s plans to ship some 12-million tons of ore by the end of the year. Haulage and shipping from Abydos were expected to start by June this year, at a rate of between two- and three-million tons a year.
