Name and Location
Atlantic Coast pipeline project, US.

Client
Atlantic Coast Pipeline, a joint venture between Dominion (45%), Duke Energy (40%), Piedmont Natural Gas (10%) and AGL Resources (5%).

Project Description
The project proposes to build an estimated 885 km natural gas pipeline from Harrison County, in West Virginia, south-east through Virginia, with an extension to Chesapeake, in Virginia, and then south through central North Carolina to Robeson County.

In West Virginia and Virginia, the diameter of the main pipeline will be 42 inches. In North Carolina the pipeline will be reduced to 36 inches.

Value
The project will cost $4.5-billion to $5-billion to implement.

Duration
The pipeline is expected to be in service by late 2018, pending regulatory approvals.

Latest Developments
Dominion has begun surveying to determine a route that meets operational and reliability needs, while minimising the impact on the environment, as well as on historical and cultural resources.

The company submitted a request to begin the prefiling process to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in October 2014, asking the commission to begin its environmental review of the proposed natural gas pipeline.
