Company Announcement - ASSA ABLOY recently received Environmental Product Declaration certificates for its range of concealed Cam-Motion® door closers (DC860) and guide rails (G462), once again affirming the environmental smartness of its products. These two product ranges offer aesthetic, efficient and safe solutions to meet a wide range of door opening applications across diverse market segments.

This global specialist in the manufacture and supply of word-class secure, safe and convenient door opening solutions, remains committed to producing and distributing products and systems with minimal environmental impact. This latest certification follows close on the heels of EPD certification of ASSA ABLOY’s DC700 and DC500 door closers in Q4 2014/Q1 2015.

“An EPD is a standardised way of quantifying the environmental impact of a product or system in life-cycle assessment,” explains ASSA ABLOY South Africa’s Vice President – Commercial Sales, Quintin Boukan. “EPDs form the basis for the data for building assessment on an ecological level which is currently laid down in the new European Standard project ‘Sustainability of buildings’”. The declaration also includes details on: Resource consumption and environmental emissions throughout the entire manufacturing process; to what extent a product contributes to the greenhouse effect; the technical properties which are required for assessing the performance of the building products in the building such as  durability, heat and sound insulation or the influence on the quality of the indoor air.

The EPD certificate is issued by the German Institute Construction and Environment (, created out of an initiative by manufacturers who decided to support the demand for more sustainability in the construction sector. IBU is currently the only organisation in Germany that issues certificates based on international standards. The DC860 concealed door closer range, a joint development between companies in the ASSA ABLOY Group, contribute to energy saving in all seasons, optimising the thermal efficiency of the door opening. The intelligent setting adjustment and installation features ensure easy fitment to both heavy and lightweight doors. The modular design and compact size (54mm high x 40mm wide x 40mm deep) and weighing only 2kg further simplifies planning. The Cam-Motion® technology reduces counter-pressure when opening the door to facilitate handling.

ASSA ABLOY’s G462 concealed guide rails are integrated with the door frame and perfectly complement the DC860 door closer range. In addition to providing reliable, automatic closing of doors, the guide rails also electromechanically secure fire and smoke protection barriers. This versatile system allows ASSA ABLOY DC860 concealed Cam-Motion® door closers with different guide rail designs to be used for almost any application. The comprehensive guide rail range enables the required functions to be used in both single-leaf and double-leaf doors. The coordinator system used in double-leaf door models ensures that the doors are safely closed in the correct order, first the inactive leaf followed by the active leaf and also makes it possible for both leaves to remain permanently open.

The DC860 concealed door closer and G462 guide rail ranges are ideally suited for applications in the residential, commercial and public sectors including fire and smoke detection doors, standard interior and exterior doors. The two ranges are installed by qualified, trained installation technicians; correctly fitted and regularly maintained units have a typical life time of 15 to 20 years.
