Name and location
Angola liquefied natural gas (LNG) project.

Client
The project is a joint venture between Chevron Corporation’s subsidiary, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company, with a 36.4% interest; Sonangol, with a 22.8% interest, and subsidiaries of Total, BP and ENI, each with a 13.6% interest.

Project description
The Angola LNG project is one of the largest in Africa.

The project will collect and transport natural gas from offshore locations to an onshore liquefaction plant on the coast, near the Congo river.

The project can produce 5.2-million metric tons a year of LNG, 63 000 bbl/d of natural gas liquids for export and 125-million cubic feet a day of natural gas for domestic consumption.

The Angola LNG project plans to use associated natural gas produced from existing crude oil operations operated by Chevron and other partners, as well as new nonassociated gas from other offshore fields. The project is expected to reduce natural gas flaring and greenhouse-gas emissions from offshore producing areas, and support continued offshore oilfield development.

Value
$10-billion.

Duration
Initial production at the Angola LNG project started in June.

Latest developments
Initial production of LNG has started at the Angola LNG project.
