JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Platinum mining major Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) on Monday reported a fatality at its Union mine, in the North West.

The employee was fatally injured in a conveyor belt-related incident at the Spud shaft one week ago.

“An independent and comprehensive process is under way to make sure we fully recognise the circumstances that led to the incident and that we learn from it in order to continue creating a safer work environment for all our employees,” said Amplats CEO Chris Griffith in a statement.
