KALGOORLIE (miningweekly.com) – Junior Doray Minerals has become Australia’s latest gold producer, pouring its first gold at the Andy Well project, in Western Australia.

The first gold pour consisted of a 144 oz dore bar.

MD Allan Kelly said this week that the first gold pour was the culmination of three-and-a-half years of exploration, development and construction work, since the initial discovery was made in March 2010.

“We are extremely excited to be entering this new phase for the company as Australia’s newest high-grade gold producer,” said Kelly.

He noted that work to date suggested that the Andy Well project would be a low-cost operation, falling within the lowest quartile of Australian gold projects.

The Andy Well project currently hosts a resource of some 1.22-million tons, at 11.3 g/t gold for 444 000 contained ounces.

The project was expected to produce some 74 000 oz/y of gold over an initial mine life of nearly four years.
