ANC urges members to remain calm following Zuma judgment
The African National Congress (ANC) has noted the Constitutional Court’s Tuesday judgment against former President Jacob Zuma for being in contempt of court for refusing to appear before the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture.
The ANC has called for calm among members during, what it calls, a “difficult period in the movement”.
Zuma was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment by the ConCourt, which further ordered that he pay the legal costs spent by the State Capture Inquiry in bringing the matter before the court.
The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting this weekend will reflect on the implications and consequences of the judgment, which it is currently studying.
The ANC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law and fulfilling the aspiration of the country’s constitutional democracy.
Meanwhile, the party’s alliance partner, the South African Communist Party (SACP) has stressed that no person is above the law and called for the respect of the judgment,.
The SACP said it is important for the Commission to finish its work, and the party reaffirmed its support for Commission.
