ANC tells members to remain calm, respect Zuma’s decision to abide by court ruling

The African National Congress (ANC) on Thursday called for calm among its members following former President Jacob Zuma’s decision to hand himself over to police, on Wednesday.
Police had until midnight on Wednesday to arrest Zuma for being in contempt of court, according to the recent Constitutional Court ruling, or themselves be in contempt.
With a few minutes to midnight, Zuma left his Nkandla home in a motorcade, to the Estcourt Correctional Centre.
Zuma is sentenced to 15 months imprisonment for failing to appear before the Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture.
Zuma’s legal team has been working fervently, this week, to rescind the court’s ruling, with judgment expected from the Pietermartizburg High Court on Friday and from the Constitutional Court hearing on Monday.
In papers filed with the apex court, the State capture inquiry said Zuma's bid to challenge the judgment is defined by blatant dishonesty and misrepresentation.
The ANC said this was a difficult period in the movement and has asked members to respect the decision taken by Zuma to abide by the rulings of the court.
“The ANC has always restated its unequivocal commitment to and defence of the Constitution, in particular the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary, amongst the founding principles and values of the South Africa,” it said.
