PERTH (miningweekly.com) – High purity alumina (HPA) producer Altech Chemicals has officially opened its research and development (R&D) workshop at the DOCK3 industrial development center, in Saxony, Germany.

Altech intends to establish an advanced battery materials R&D facility with a focus on the coating of nano coated anode materials.

The facility will further refine the effectiveness of the company’s battery materials alumina coating technology and will ultimately seek to produce materials for leading end-users in Europe, to test their products. Altech said on Friday that the ultimate aim was to fast-track full scale commercialisation of its battery materials coating technology in Germany.

A preliminary feasibility study for a battery materials HPA coating plant at Altech Industries Germany is currently under way, and has assumed a Phase 1 coating plant design capacity to coat 10 000 t/y of anode grade graphite.
