Afroteq Advisory, an integrated multi-disciplinary consulting company providing advisory, project management and training services to the built environment and a subsidiary of the AFMS Group, has appointed Kukhanyakwezwe (“Khanyo”) Bonginkosi Hlatshwayo as Head of its Northern Region - Business Development and Projects – encompassing the provinces of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. Heading up the company’s office in Woodmead, Johannesburg, Khanyo has also been entrusted with the remit to grow the company’s footprint into neighbouring sub-Saharan countries such as Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

Background

Khanyo is a Mechanical Technologist who is currently working towards completing his Master’s Degree in Engineering Management through the University of Johannesburg, focussing on the development of soft skills among engineers. He was also privileged to be one of only a handful of students to be awarded a 100 % full scholarship by the Quantic School of Business and Technology in Washington DC, USA, for its Executive MBA programme.

Khanyo is professionally registered with the Engineering Council of SA (ECSA) and the Green Building Council of SA (GBCSA) and possesses extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. He has worked on various projects in multiple industries, including healthcare, data centres, correctional facilities, sports stadiums, petrochemical, automotive, air-conditioning, telecommunication, energy systems and building services.

Afroteq Advisory

Commenting on what attracted him to joining the Afroteq Advisory team, Khanyo explains that his name literally means “light to the world” in Zulu. With the company’s strong focus on empowering people and businesses around South Africa, he believes that Afroteq also brings light to the workplace and the companies it serves.

“Success is a journey, not a destination. Since its inception in 2000, Afroteq has built a track record of success. Despite its impressive credentials, it continues to be known as a company with heart and a passion for people. Afroteq cares deeply for its clients and makes great effort to find out where each company’s pain points are so that it can provide solutions where they’re needed most. One of its core strengths is the amazing team of multi-disciplinary industry specialists it employs. These are highly skilled and knowledgeable individuals from specialist backgrounds with expert skill-sets that complement each other. It allows Afroteq to bring a truly unique service offering to the table for each client with whom it engages,” Khanyo says.

Afroteq is a  Level 2 BBBEE contributor with 51% black ownership and is ISO9001:2015 and ISO45001:2018 certified. The company prides itself on partnering with their clients to develop a wide range of specialist solutions in the built environment which cover project management, quantity surveying, strategic advisory services, occupational health and safety, independent projects aimed at optimising facilities operations, design and space planning and training.

Explains Khanyo: “Our core focus is empowering our customers to make informed facilities management decisions. The process begins with us examining the blueprints and the construction of the building and understanding the client’s business in the building so that the solutions we bring are appropriate for both th building and the business of the client. We undertake asset verification to develop asset registers and conduct a conditions assessments as part of our proposal, which distinguishes us from our competition”.

Future Plans

Afroteq Advisory has its sights firmly set on growing and expanding its footprint in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, extending its passion for the people they employ, empower and educate.

“Facilities Management is one of the fastest growing industries worldwide, thanks to the growing need for optimised processes, functional spaces and sustainable profits. Our ability to assist with every aspect of design, procurement, construction, ongoing maintenance and accredited qualifications and short course training places Afroteq Advisory in the unique position to offer value to every industry and client – regardless of their size  or location,” Khanyo concludes.
