Cape Town-based trade exhibition and conference organiser Spintelligent, which owns and organises the African Utility Week (AUW), won four major awards at the Respect, Opportunities, Achievement, Recognition (Roar) Organiser and Exhibitor Awards, which took place in Johannesburg on January 26.
The awards, jointly organised by event and exhibition organisations Association of African Exhibition Organisers and the Exhibition & Event Association of Southern Africa, are held yearly to honour excellence in the exhibition and events industry on the continent.
AUW, Spintelligent’s flagship energy event for the last 17 years, was the joint winner in the category Best Trade Exhibition 6 001 m2 to 12 000 m2, sharing the honours with tourism trade show World Travel Market Africa. This year’s AUW will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from May 16 to 18, and is expected to be more successful than previous iterations.
Spintelligient’s other awards went to agricultural trade exhibition Agritech Expo Zambia, and property development event African Real Estate & Infrastructure Summit (AREIS).
Agritech Expo Zambia won the Best Trade & Consumer Exhibition in the 12 000 m2 or larger category, as well as the Distinction in Social Responsibility award. AREIS, which was only launched last year, won the Best Confex category.
“It was a clean sweep for Spintelligent and I could not be prouder of our teams,” Spintelligent MD David Ashdown said at the time. “We work incredibly hard to produce successful, relevant and innovative events for our clients in exciting industries such as energy, agriculture and mining. To receive recognition from our peers in this competitive expo industry is immensely rewarding as it inspires us to work even harder and to take things up a notch every year.”
He added that the range of events awarded, from the long-standing events such as AUW to Spintelligent’s more recent projects such as Agritech Expo, showed that the company is still on the “right track.”
Commenting on the award, Spintelligent power, energy and real estate group director Le-Ann Hare Keymer noted: “We share Africa’s goals of economic growth and prosperity for all, especially working in the power, energy and real estate sectors. It is a privilege to be part of the continent’s development through our events and particularly to be recognised for excellence and innovation.”
