The Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC) has announced the finalists for the 2024 AMEC Awards, with winners set to be revealed next month. The yearly event highlights the remarkable achievements and dedication of the exploration and mining sectors.

AMEC CEO Warren Pearce says these awards are a highlight on the association’s calendar each year.

"They embody the tireless work and diligence of the exploration and mining industry.”

“With an emphasis on celebrating industry excellence, I look forward to seeing our nominees, finalists, members and colleagues on 7 November, as we announce winners in each of our six categories.”

Judging panels for each award have reviewed nominations, resulting in a competitive field of finalists across six key areas. The awards emphasize the industry’s commitment to the environment, diversity and inclusion, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander empowerment, community contributions, and impactful media stories.

The categories are as follows:

Environment Award: Chalice Mining, Kimberley Mineral Sands, Metro Mining, and Westgold Resources.

Community Contribution Award: Chalice Mining, Gold Road Resources, and Mineral Resources.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Empowerment Award: Global Drone Solutions, JSW Drilling, and Thiess Group.

Diversity and Inclusion Award: De Grey Mining, MEC Mining, and Westgold Resources.

Media Award: Adrian Rauso - The West Australian, Brad Thompson - AFR, Rachel Riley - The Courier Mail, and Rhiannon Shine - ABC 7.30.

The most outstanding mineral deposit discovery, recognised by the Prospector Award, will be announced on the night.

“When you look under the hood, there is a wealth of stories to discover. AMEC looks forward to sharing these stories and announcing the Prospector Award on 7 November 2024,” says Pearce. “The AMEC Awards provide us with an opportunity to reflect, celebrate, and acknowledge some of the excellence we see every day in the exploration and mining industry.”

“An industry that strives to do better every day, navigate obstacles that appear, and innovate to ensure we stay ahead of technological advancements, environmental awareness, and workplace health and safety.”

AMEC expresses gratitude to all who submitted nominations, emphasising the importance of recognising these accomplishments within the industry and the wider community. “To all our finalists, you should be extremely proud of this recognition from your peers who sit on the judging panels. We wish you good luck on the night and thank you for your contribution to our industry,” Pearce states.

Winners will be announced at the annual AMEC Awards gala dinner on Thursday, November 7, at Optus Stadium, Perth.
