The South African National Energy Association (SANEA) is proud to announce that our 2022 Conference will take place on 31 August and 01 September 2022, at Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg.  This conference will be the first hybrid event that SANEA will host where we will not only be able to attend in-person, for the first time for many in two years, but where members and SANEA supporters will also be able to attend online.

Our 2022 conference will be themed: ‘Ignite: Energy for all’ and will also build on the 2022 World Energy day theme of ‘Empowering Energy Independence in Africa - enabling rural and urban renewable energy awareness, access and affordability’.

From the resounding success of the 2021 Conference ‘Unlock: Unlocking the possibilities of energy sustainability’, our 2022 conference will build on the current challenges and trends in the energy sector, with a focus on deepening the thought leadership that underpins a call to action to address the unfolding of the sector.

Unpacking ‘Ignite: Energy for All’ will center around a call to action, looking more deeply at implementation and sector requirements, and building a much more enabling environment to implement the just energy transition and create sustainable future energy systems.

The programme will touch on some of the following areas:

Strengthening enablers

  • focusing on the Transmission Grid and other connection challenges and required actions
  • New models of financing energy investments

New Energy frontiers

  • Building on the green hydrogen development and key levers to create enablement in delivering this huge opportunity for South Africa
  • Exploring sustainable aviation fuel as a game changer for transportation
  • Harnessing and Harvesting Energy

Just Energy Transition

  • Carbon Tax
  • Decarbonisation
  • Net Zero Transition
  • Skills and inclusivity

Downstream risks / consequences

  • Impact of Just Energy Transition on existing business models / value chains eg.  Municipal revenue streams

Once again, the SANEA Risk Report 2022/2023 will be launched at the conference and several of the risks identified in this year’s report will be further unpacked and discussed. I would like to encourage you to attend this year’s event and I look forward to seeing you, hopefully ‘in-person’! Yours in energy
