Leon Schreiber

Leon Schreiber is a South African politician who serves as Minister of Home Affairs in the Government of National Unity formed in 2024. He is a member of the Democratic Alliance, South Africa's official opposition party. Schreiber was appointed to the Cabinet by President Cyril Ramaphosa following the 2024 general election, which resulted in the African National Congress losing its parliamentary majority for the first time since 1994. Before his ministerial appointment, he served as a member of Parliament and held shadow portfolio positions for the Democratic Alliance. He has been particularly vocal on issues of governance, public service delivery and immigration policy. Schreiber holds a doctoral degree in political science and has academic experience in addition to his political career. His appointment as Home Affairs Minister placed him at the centre of debates around border management, identity documentation and immigration reform in South Africa. He has advocated for modernisation of Home Affairs services and improved efficiency in the department. Schreiber represents a younger generation of Democratic Alliance leadership and is known for his data-driven approach to policy development.
