Growthpoint Properties

Growthpoint Properties is a South African real estate investment trust and one of the largest primary listed property companies on the JSE. The company owns, manages and develops a diversified portfolio of office, retail, industrial and residential properties across South Africa. Growthpoint Properties has expanded its footprint internationally, with investments in Australia through its stake in Growthpoint Properties Australia and in Central and Eastern Europe. The company's South African portfolio spans major urban centres including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria, with assets totalling tens of billions of rand. Growthpoint Properties generates income primarily through rental revenue from long-term lease agreements with corporate, government and retail tenants. The company is structured as a real estate investment trust, distributing the majority of its earnings to shareholders as dividends. It has pursued a strategy of portfolio diversification, selective acquisitions and value-enhancing developments to grow its asset base. Growthpoint Properties employs several hundred staff and is recognised as a significant player in South Africa's commercial property sector. The company was founded in 1987 and listed on the JSE in 2000, since growing through organic development and strategic acquisitions.
