Geordin Hill-Lewis

Geordin Hill-Lewis is a South African politician who serves as the executive mayor of Cape Town, a position he has held since November 2021. He is a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA), South Africa's official opposition party. Hill-Lewis represents the DA in the Western Cape, where the party governs both the provincial government and the City of Cape Town metropolitan municipality. He rose to the mayoral position after serving as a member of the provincial legislature and holding various portfolio responsibilities within the DA. As mayor, Hill-Lewis has focused on issues including energy security, water management, housing delivery and economic growth in Cape Town. He has been vocal about the city's efforts to achieve greater autonomy from national government, particularly in areas such as electricity provision and rail services. Hill-Lewis is known for his technocratic approach to governance and emphasis on service delivery improvements. Before entering politics, he worked in the private sector and holds degrees in politics, philosophy and economics. His tenure as mayor has coincided with Cape Town's efforts to navigate loadshedding, infrastructure investment and rapid urbanisation challenges.
