Prairie Lithium, formerly Arizona Lithium, has taken delivery of North America's largest commercial direct lithium extraction (DLE) unit, four columns and about four times the size of the single-column system at Standard Lithium's Arkansas project, at its Saskatchewan project. The Williston basin project holds 6.3-million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent and a prefeasibility study shows Phase 1 output of 6 000 t/y from three well pads, requiring $290-million in capital, with a pretax net present value of $448-million. Phase 1 production, targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026 and already fully permitted, is secured under a binding offtake with Hydro Lithium for 100% of output.
LibertyStream locks in offtake and raises capitalLibertyStream Infrastructure Partners has signed a definitive multi-year offtake agreement with a US industrial customer for 60% of planned output from its Freedom 1 facility in Texas, supplying 600 t/y of lithium carbonate from 2027. The company has also launched a non-brokered private placement of up to C$20-million to fund DLE scale-up at its 1 000 t/y Howard County site, developed with Select Water Solutions.
Rio Tinto and Canadian projects advanceRio Tinto expects one of its DLE projects to launch within a few years as it targets tripling lithium output to 200 000 t a year by 2028. E3 Lithium has secured C$36.5-million in federal funding for its Alberta Clearwater project, while Anson Resources' Utah project targets 2027 start-up with POSCO Holdings.
